Champions Gate to the Orlando theme parks: distances and drive times
One of the first things families ask us is "how far is it to the parks?" The short answer is that Champions Gate is a handy base. It has its own exit off I-4 (exit 58), just south of Walt Disney World, so most of the big parks are a straightforward drive. Here are the approximate distances and the drive times we'd plan around, with a few tips to make park mornings smoother.
The quick table
All figures are approximate road miles from Champions Gate, with typical drive times in normal traffic. Your exact time depends on the time of day, roadworks, weather and events, so always check a live map before you set off.
| Destination | Approx. miles | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Magic Kingdom (car park at the Transportation and Ticket Center) | 13 | 25–35 min + monorail/ferry |
| EPCOT | 11 | 20–30 min |
| Disney's Hollywood Studios | 11 | 20–30 min |
| Disney's Animal Kingdom | 11 | 20–30 min |
| Disney Springs | 13 | 20–30 min |
| Universal Studios Florida / Islands of Adventure | 19–21 | 30–40 min |
| Universal Epic Universe | 20 | 30–40 min |
| SeaWorld Orlando | 15–17 | 25–35 min |
| LEGOLAND Florida (Winter Haven) | 26 | 35–45 min |
| Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex | 60–68 | about 1 hr 30–1 hr 45 |
| Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets | 12 | 20–25 min |
| ICON Park / International Drive | 18 | 25–35 min |
| Orlando International Airport (MCO) | 27–32 | 35–45 min |
You'll find all of these on the illustrated map above. Tap a pin for the drive and a Google Maps route.
Walt Disney World
The Disney parks are the closest of the big attractions. You take I-4 east from Champions Gate and follow the signs for the Disney exits. EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom each have their own car park near the entrance, so the drive time is close to your door-to-gate time.
Magic Kingdom is the exception. Day guests park at the Transportation and Ticket Center and then take the monorail or the ferry across the lake to the park entrance. That adds roughly 20–30 minutes once you include queues, so allow for it when you're aiming for opening time. Disney Springs, the shopping and dining district, is about the same distance and makes an easy evening out.
Universal Orlando and Epic Universe
Universal is a little further away, up I-4 towards the city. Remember there are now two separate Universal sites:
- Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk share the main parking garages on Universal Boulevard.
- Epic Universe opened in May 2025 a few miles to the south. It has its own surface car park on Epic Boulevard, reached from Kirkman Road.
Put the right address in your sat nav for the park you're visiting that day. Our Universal guide goes into more detail.
SeaWorld, International Drive and the outlets
SeaWorld Orlando and the International Drive area (including ICON Park, home to the big observation wheel) are around 25–35 minutes away. The Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets are one of the closest shopping trips, at about 20–25 minutes, and they're easy to combine with an evening at Disney Springs or on I-Drive.
Shops and supermarkets
The same map marks the everyday shops. These times are approximate drives from Champions Gate at I-4, in light traffic, so allow longer when the roads are busy.
| Place | Drive |
|---|---|
| Publix, 8301 Champions Gate Blvd | approx. 3 mins |
| Posner Park, 1300 Posner Blvd, Davenport | approx. 9 mins |
| Target, 5000 Grandview Pkwy, Davenport | approx. 10 mins |
| Walmart Supercenter, 2855 N Old Lake Wilson Rd, Kissimmee | approx. 12 mins |
| Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets | 20–25 min |
Vineland is the figure from the table above. The supermarket guide has more on what to pick up on the first shop, and the shops sit beside the map on Plan your trip.
LEGOLAND Florida and Kennedy Space Center
LEGOLAND Florida is in Winter Haven, to the south-west. It's a good choice for younger children, and you avoid the I-4 traffic heading into Orlando. Kennedy Space Center is a proper day trip on the Space Coast. The route uses the SR 528 (Beachline), which is a toll road, so leave early. Launch days can bring heavy traffic.
Tips for smoother park days
- Leave earlier than you think. If you want to be at the gates for opening, aim to park 30–60 minutes beforehand. Add extra time for Magic Kingdom.
- Avoid I-4 rush hour where you can. Weekday mornings and late afternoons are the busiest, and so are park closing times. A mid-afternoon break back at the pool can help you miss the worst of it.
- Use a live traffic app. Google Maps or Waze will route you around accidents and roadworks.
- Know your tolls. Some routes, particularly to the airport and the Space Coast, use toll roads, and many toll points are cashless. Check how your car hire company charges for tolls before you leave the desk.
- Budget for parking. Theme park parking is charged per day at the major parks, and prices change. Check the official websites before your trip.
- Photograph your parking spot. After a long day, every row looks the same.
